VINCENT G. KOKICH APPOINTED EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OFAMERICAN JOURNAL OF ORTHODONTICS AND DENTOFACIAL ORTHOPEDICS

Appointment Effective January 2011

Kokich, DDS, MSD, has been appointed editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJO-DO) by the Board of Trustees of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO).  Dr. Kokich will succeed current editor David L. Turpin, DDS, MSD, who will retire in December 2011.  The AJO-DO is the official publication of the AAO, its constituent societies, the American Board of Orthodontics and the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Michael B. Rogers, DDS, AAO secretary-treasurer and Trustee representing the Southern Association of Orthodontists, chaired the search committee.

AJO-DO editor duties include selection of editorial content, appointments of peer reviewers and writing editorials.  Dr. Kokich has experience with a number of domestic and international professional journals.  He has been associate editor of the AJO-DO since 1999 and served in a similar role for other publications.  Dr. Kokich sat on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Dental Association, the British Journal of Orthodontics and the Australian Orthodontic Journal, among others.

Dr. Kokich has lectured at AAO Annual Sessions, giving lectures such as the John Valentine Mershon Lecture, the Jacob A. Salzmann Lecture and the Edward Hartley Angle Lecture.  To date, Dr. Kokich has given 40 named lectures.
More than 20 book chapters have been authored by Dr. Kokich.  He has written or contributed to 100 scientific articles published in the U.S. and abroad.  He has given hundreds of scientific presentations since 1975 to local, regional, national and international dental and orthodontic organizations and study clubs.

Dr. Kokich graduated from the University of Washington's dental and orthodontic programs.  He has been on the faculty of the University of Washington since 1974 and has maintained a private orthodontic practice as well.

Dr. Kokich is a member of many organizations, including the AAO, the American Association of University Professors, the American Cleft Palate Association, the American Dental Association and the International Association of Dental Research.  He is a Diplomate of The American Board of Orthodontics and a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.  He has honorary memberships in the British Orthodontic Society, the Polish Orthodontic Society, the Taiwan Association of Orthodontists, the World Federation of Orthodontists and the Pacific Coast Society of Prosthodontists.
