Description:

Junior faculty fellowships in exchange for teaching commitments of two to five years. Fellowship award recipients choose the amount and duration of their fellowships as follows:

When submitting an application, each candidate designates the number of years of Fellowship participation they elect to participate in, therefore the amount of fellowship award they qualify for.  For each year of intended Fellowship participation, the recipient will be awarded $30,000.  For example, if a Fellow elects 3 year participation, the award will be $90,000 (3 years * $30,000).  Fellowship payments may be made in equal or unequal annual installments during the fellowship period to fit the needs of the individual recipient.  Participation must be for a minimum of two and a maximum of five years.

In return for the Fellowship award, the recipient agrees to teach orthodontics at an American Dental Association (ADA) accredited orthodontic graduate program for at least the number of years for which s/he was a Fellow. The years cannot run concurrently with the Fellowship years. So, if an orthodontist were a Fellow for 5 years, the fulfillment years begin at the end of his/her 5th Fellowship year and continue for the 5 subsequent years. This would, in effect, result in a fulfillment obligation equal to the number of years on fellowship.

Please note that Fellowship participation is a serious commitment by the successful candidate to the AAO, thus there will be a penalty in the event of early withdrawal from the program.
